8.21.13 Fever Game

We took Bayleigh and her friend Josee to the Indiana Fever game Wednesday night since Bayleigh win the tickets. After the game the girls got to meet Tamika Catchings #24 and Shavonte Zellous #1. Both ladies were leading scorers for the night. It was a late night for a school night and Bayleigh even cried while waiting for autographs because she was exhausted and the girls behind us were sassy and said, they said she'd be here in 30 minutes and it's been 32...my daughter is OCD about time and being where you're supposed to be. :/ oh well.

Some of the girls got to go down on the court and get autographed balls.
Bayleigh's friend Kylee is the girl in the right corner cheese'n!

Mohawk Express Camp

At our local school, a team of parents and staff has put together a very controversial travel basketball team. I say that like that because there are lots of people upset over it being on Sundays. Others are upset that it's ending a program that was already there that parents were happy with too. I've also heard that others feel that the high school is simply using the elementary and jr. high kids to raise money for the boys basketball high school teams because the "left over funds" will be given to that organization. And while my opinion isn't that I think that was the intent, that is how their wording is coming across. I think that it's to get kids interested at an earlier age so that when high school rolls around they 1. Will be good. 2. They will already know what they are doing. And 3. I think they are trying to encourage others to get up and get active.
I will say that my opinion is this, I do wish the athletic director would put more into other sports than just boys basketball and I personally believe he is dropping the ball on that one for two reasons, 1. There's way more sports than basketball and 2. I don't have a boy, I have a girl so it would be nice to be raising money for programs she will eventually participate in. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR doesn't mean--BOY'S BASKETBALL DIRECTOR. Just my opinions of course.

Anyhow, this league is for girls in grades 4-8 and boys 5-8, but they hosted a camp for grades 3-8 so Bayleigh participated. It was Friday and Saturday night from 6-8. August 16&17, 2013. Friday night was amazing! The camp maxed out at 70 kids and that gym was full! They broke off into 8 different stations and it was organized very well! They guy running it didn't cut the kids any slack. They were to run everywhere they went and keep a positive attitude. I can't wasn't allowed by a single person and if he heard it, they all paid by getting into the push-up position and holding it until he said. He would test them with impossibles just to trip them up several times and they tripped up every time!

On Saturday a guest speaker came that was a secret until he walked through the door. It was Indiana Pacers Darnell Hillman aka Dr. Dunk. He spoke for a really long time but gave the kids good advice. At the end they all got autographs and a Pacers bracelet and some got a little extra goodies as well. It was pretty cool.

After that the coaches that ran the stations came together and chose a kid out of the 70 to receive an Indiana Fever prize pack that included 4 tickets to this Wednesday nights game. An autograph session with Tamika Catchings, and it's Addias night so everyone will receive a t-shirt too! How they decided on the kid was over the two days they had to pick the kid that they felt gave it their all. Positive attitude. Hard worker. Good listener. The whole 9 yards. I am very proud to say, BAYLEIGH WON! And won she did! We watched her the whole time and that girl left nothing behind! The coach said all of the coaches agreed that every single time they told her something, she looked them right in the eyes. Was she the best--not at all. Did she give it her best--absolutely! We are very proud of her! It's funny too because they lined them up right add the bat when they got there Friday night from smallest to biggest and she literally was the smallest! Lol! Here's some pics!
