Hurdles On a Treadmill?

I am blogging tonight pretty bummed. I have worked and worked and worked to keep on task with this whole 2 mile per night thing. I find that I am feeling better and actually look forward to the walk, however, it has not been easy.

Here is what I am up against. I find that the treadmill is the easiest for me. It is a level ground, steady pace, and great workout. When I walk on the streets or on the track or in a parking lot I find that my pace is all over the place and the cramping starts easily. As mentioned in my previous blog, I have self-diagnosed myself with Compartment Syndrome. At first I thought it was shin splints, but after much investigation on Google, I am leaning toward the CS. It is painful. The injuries from it could even get as bad as needing to have my leg amputated and I am not willing to do that. SO, this is what I have found. I can walk, completely pain free on the treadmill at 2.6 miles per hour. Here is the problem....it takes me 46 mins and 10 secs to do that!!! I get bored out of my mind even with the music going and don't even start to get really sweaty until 3/4 of a mile.

I did it one night on 3.0 mph for 3/4 of a mile. Then I kicked it up to 3.2 until the last half of the last lap and at that point kicked it up to 3.4 mph. I finished that night with a time of 38 mins 39 secs. I was SO PROUD! It hurt--let me tell you, IT HURT! I was pushing myself so hard and was saying out loud, I can't do it, I can't do it, I can't do it. At one point I kicked it back down to 3.0 for a few seconds, I was fighting back the tears and said NO! I CAN DO THIS! It felt SO GOOD when I was done. I was so proud I wanted to cry!

The next night, I walked with my friend Jill in the parking lot of a church and we did 2.24 miles in 45 mins 43 secs. I hurt again. It's my right leg. It gets so tight and you can actually see the bulge in my leg, but I pushed through and just kept going.

The next night was Friday night. I again attempted to push myself but ended up losing the battle. I went just under a mile and had to quit. I was basically crawling off of the treadmill and couldn't get to the icy/hot fast enough. I was defeated. I was absolutely bummed. That was the night that I read about the CS.

I took Saturday night off. I kept thinking about the CS and what I should do. SO, this is what I have decided. I am not in a competition with anyone. I am doing this for me and for me alone. So who cares about the time. Something is better than nothing. When I was on tonight and walked the 2 miles at 2.6 mph I was disappointed, but I don't really know why. I kept thinking I was just going to kick it up and push through the pain, but I can't do that. If I really do have CS then I won't be able to walk at all if I injure myself. So, looks like I will be spending 46 mins and 10 secs of my night, every night walking on the treadmill.

If any of you that stumble on this blog have any suggestions at all, please leave me a comment. I am open to hear anything at this point. :)

Catch up before the crazy!

So, last Saturday, September 8th, 2012 Honda had their co picnic at King's Island so we went with mom. The night before we stayed in a hotel to let Bayleigh swim because that's her all time favorite thing to do. It was a lot of fun. The weather was unseasonably cool and Bayleigh used her $30 to purchase a sweatshirt for the morning and night. She was FINALLY, at almost 8 yrs old tall enough for a 46 in bracelet! She got to ride the biggest roller coaster in the kiddie park which is a suspended roller coaster and she loved it!!!! I got to ride it with her first and her giggles were unforgettable. Larry rode in the seat directly behind us and thought she was cute. She even got my mom on it, because we had to ride it 600 times and mom was nervous in line and Bayleigh looked at her and said, you hear those people? Those are the noises you'll be making in a minute! Lol! It was a great trip!
I've started walking. I'd like to drop a lot of weight but I get so easily discouraged. I've worked hard to lower my time, but that's just for me. The goal is to just walk 2 miles or more each day. I've dusted off the dread mill, I mean treadmill and stared racking up the miles. It feels good. Well it HURTS, but no pain, no gain right?! My right leg kills me. I've walked 3 times pain free, with not great speed. Tonight, I practically crawled off the treadmill almost in tears. I started investigating shin splints and I have now diagnosed myself, per webmd, with compartment syndrome. Yay me! Just google it vs shin splints and you'll see my symptoms. I think I need to work on the exercise bike to try to get some weight off. I am trying to convince Larry to put it in our bedroom. He says no.
This weight loss is so relaxed and pressure free that I've not even weighed or measured myself. I don't need numbers- I just need results. :)
Basketball, volleyball/church, and gymnastics all start this upcoming week. I'm tired thinking about it, but B will love it!
Here's some pics to end this blog. I'll post again when all the sports start! :) I'll include the pic of B in gym class. She ran 1/2 a mile in 5 mins and 19 sec! Go B!!!
